This summer's unusual weather is getting the blame for a giant drop in attendance at Fremont's city pools.
The Fremont Tribune reports attendance was down by 28 percent from last year at the city's water park. The drop was even greater at Fremont's Ronin Pool, where attendance plunged by 31 percent.
Recreation superintendent Kim Koski says last year's hot, dry weather prompted people to flock to the pools. This year, cool weather in July led some lifeguards to wear hoodies and sweatpants while they watched the water.
Some of the summer's hottest weather came after the pool closed for the season on Aug. 10.
The 2012 swimming season also was a little longer than the 2013 season.
