FEMA and the Nebraska equivalent “NEMA” released several pictures taken recently (see attached video) of how their partnership saved valuable exhibits and artifacts from being washed downstream. Among the artifacts are a World War Two minesweeper and a Cold War era submarine. Both are normally dry docked but now floating in water.
One picture shows workers probing for a deactivated mine which is now under water.
None of this would have happened if it weren’t for a volunteer at the park who turned to FEMA for help in June. Also taking part in the effort are the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Civil Air Patrol and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
