We have all heard the many unfortunate stories about bicyclists being injured, or worse, due to a lack of a bicycle helmet. Sometimes the helmet was not fitted properly. This spring, AAA is hosting a series of free bike helmet fittings to help reduce the risk.
Free helmets will be offered to children ages 5-12 on a limited basis.
AAA Nebraska says wearing a properly fitted helmet can reduce the risk of a serious head injury by 85%. To properly fit a helmet, place the helmet evenly on the head about one or two finger widths above the eyebrow.
The helmet should rest on the head without tilting forward, backward or sideways.
Sometimes foam pads will need to be adjusted or added to make a helmet properly fit.
The chinstrap should be tightened and snug as possible with space for one finger between the neck and the strap.
The free fittings will be held at various AAA Nebraska offices on the following dates:
May 5, 10am-2pm, 132nd & West Center (northwest corner)
May 12, 10am-2pm, 160th & Evans Street
June 2, 10am-2pm, Twin Creek Plaza near 38th & Hwy 370 in Bellevue
June 9, 10am-2pm, Clocktower Plaza, 98th & Burt Street (east of Westroads Mall)
