Bicycling provides great exercise and enjoyment for riders of all ages, but every year hundreds of cyclists are killed and thousands more injured on U.S. roadways, reports AAA.
Helmets are the best defense to prevent serious head trauma, says AAA. For that reason, AAA is conducting free bicycle helmet fitting events at branch locations in the Omaha metro area.
In partnership with the Cornhusker Motor Club Foundation, the events will feature free bike helmets for children ages 5-14, safety literature, and refreshments.
Children must be present with their parent or guardian to be properly fitted. Helmets are available in popular designs and colors while supplies last.
Helmet fittings will be conducted at AAA offices on the following dates:
May 4, from 9 am to 1 pm, 132nd & West Center (northwest corner)
May 4, from 9 am to 1 pm, Twin Creek Plaza, near 38th St and Hwy 370 in Bellevue
June 1, from 9 am to 1 pm, Clocktower Plaza, 98 & Burt St (near Westroads Mall)
Since a properly fitted bicycle helmet can reduce the risk of a serious head injury by up to 85 percent, children will be asked to sign a bicycle rider’s pledge agreement indicating that they promise to wear their helmet every time they ride their bicycle.
