Archbishop George J. Lucas will headline the Archdiocese of Omaha’s June 20 “Fortnight for Freedom Rally” at Christ the King
Church in Omaha.
Last summer the U.S. bishops called on dioceses to sponsor “Fortnight for Freedom” events in response to several moves by state, local, and federal governments that were threatening the Church’s religious freedom.
The U.S. bishops are again encouraging dioceses to sponsor “Fortnight for Freedom” events during the two-week period from June 21 to July 4—beginning with the feasts of St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher (martyrs who remained faithful in the face of
persecution by political power) and ending with Independence Day.
Archbishop Lucas will address the rally crowd. Other speakers are Dr. Carson Holloway, associate professor of political science at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and Sharon Doran, founder of the Seeking Truth Bible study series.
