A judge sentenced former Husker football player Alfonzo Dennard to 30 days in jail and 24 months probation for his part in a police assault case. Dennard will also have to serve 100 hours of community service.
NU coach Bo Pelini was in the courtroom Thursday morning when Judge Stephanie Stacy handed down the sentence. A jury found the New England Patriots' cornerback guilty of assaulting a Lincoln police officer and resisting arrest in February.
Prosecutors had also charged Dennard with third-degree assault of a 22-year-old man during the early morning hours of April 21, 2012, however the jury found Dennard not guilty on that charge.
