Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol Troop A-Omaha will hold several nights of special enforcement activities during the Cox Classic Golf Tournament.

The week long golf event, August 18-25, in Omaha combines national competition and festivities and is expected to draw nearly 100,000 visitors.

Beginning in the evening hours Thursday-Saturday, August 22-24, troopers will utilize high visibility patrols in an effort to reduce the potential for alcohol related crashes and accidents involving motorists and pedestrians in the congested areas near the tournament site.

Troopers and Communications Specialists will put in overtime hours during the enforcement effort thanks in part to a $9,765 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety (NOHS).

During special enforcement efforts conducted in conjunction with the Cox Classic in 2012, troopers took four impaired drivers off the road and issued 252 citations & warnings. Citations and warnings were issued for violations to include open container, speeding, driving under suspension and no seat belt. ###
