Flooding Forces Trains To Western Kansas

A section of track that moves coal from Lincoln, Neb., to Kansas City, Mo., is under water because of Missouri River flooding.

Workers tried to keep that track in commission by raising about three miles of track near Rulo, Neb. But a breeched levee upstream flooded the track.

The plan calls for rerouting coal trains that normally run from Lincoln, Neb., to the Kansas City area through Colorado and western Kansas.

After Dodge City, the coal trains pass through Newton to the Kansas City area.
