Gov. Terry Branstad has ordered state offices to lower U.S. and state flags in honor of an Iowa soldier killed in Afghanistan. Nineteen-year-old Pfc. Brandon Buttry of Shenandoah died November 5th while serving in Kandahar Province.
The governor has ordered the flags lowered to half-staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday.
A visitation is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Shenandoah. The funeral is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Buttry was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, which is south-southwest of Tacoma, Washington. He was deployed to Afghanistan in August.
