Douglas County health officials report a woman "over the age of 65" died this week after being hospitalized with seasonal flu complications. This marks the first confirmed death caused by the flu in Douglas County.
The Douglas County Health Department says the woman also had some "underlying medical conditions." She was not immunized.
This flu season had an early start with the first local cases recorded in October. To date, there have been 1,132 confirmed cases of influenza in Douglas County.
