Fireworks Over July 4th Hit-And-Run, Shooting Results In 30-Day Sentence

A Lincoln man is going to jail for a hit-and-run that led to a fatal shootout last summer.

Robert Robinson was sentenced Friday to 30 days in jail for misdemeanor willful reckless driving. Robinson acknowledged driving over a firework on July 4th, but told investigators he didn't realize his car had struck the 8-year-old boy who lit the firework. The boy suffered only minor injuries.

Later that night, four men showed up at Robinson's house to confront him over the hit-and-run. Witnesses told police that one of the four men fired first. Robinson fired back, wounding one man and fatally shooting the boy's father, Orlando Sifuentez.

Prosecutors say Robinson was acting in self-defense, so no charges were filed against him in the shooting.
