Many people attended a job fair in Council Bluffs Wednesday, hoping it would help them land a job.
One of the job seekers that attended was Debra Buschelman, who lost her job of 13 years on Monday. Now she’s back in the job market at age 58. “The thing that scares me the most is the age thing and am I going to be qualified.”
This was the first job fair she’s attended, but hopes it will give her experience.
Also at the job fair was Erik Stemsrud, currently in school to get a human resources degree, but now that plan has changed. Just a few weeks ago he became a father, so he needs a job with health insurance.
“It's rough out there. It's good for employers because they're getting a lot of good people, but it's hard for the common guy to get a job." He’s been looking for over a month and hoped this job fair would help.
These two people have different backgrounds, but both are in the same position, trying to find a job in a tough market.
Stemsrud did walk away with a lead. “I actually had some good luck with one of them over here. They took my resume and said, here’s my email and let me know if you apply for this position and we will try to set you up."
Buschelman hopes she will have the same luck. Both plan to continue to do everything they can to be able to say those coveted words: I got a job.
