Two felony convictions in sexual assault cases involving teenage girls.
34-year-old Michael D. Winchel of Plattsmouth will be sentenced November 7th on two counts of criminal child enticement, 1st offense, Class IIIA Felonies. In the plea agreement, three counts of attempted first degree sexual assault of a child, Class II Felonies, were dismissed as was a misdemeanor count of procuring alcohol for a minor. The agreement states the prosecution and defense will recommend that any prison sentences on the two convictions will be served concurrently.
A Class IIIA Felony conviction carries up to 5 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.
The Cassgram reports Winchel will be required to enter his name on the state sex offender registry.
Plattsmouth police officers arrested Winchel on May 14th after a male subject made contact with three juvenile females, made sexually explicit comments and advances, physically interfered with a juvenile female’s attempt to exit his vehicle and provided alcohol for one of the juvenile female victims. The girls were 13, 14 and 15 years old at the time. The girls went home and told their parents what had happened, police were called and Winchel was arrested.
Winchel has remained in the Cass County Jail since his arrest. Bail is $500,000.
The case had been scheduled for jury trial next week.
