The driver of an SUV who said her brakes failed, causing her to go through a red light and crashing into a car killing the driver a week ago, was booked Friday for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.
After a review by the Douglas County Attorney’s Office, it was decided to proceed with charges in the case.

The car's driver, 50-year-old Kathryn Hardiman of Omaha, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, 30-year-old Jason Newman of Omaha, suffered broken ribs and internal injuries. Neither Samuel or her passenger were injured.
"When the car hit the curb the car flew probably six foot in the air," said witness Keith Jensen. "Yeah, it was crazy, but the driver passed away and they got the passenger out. They had to cut the roof off to get them out of the car."
Samuel did not have insurance.
