Omaha police told WOWT 6 News that speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in a crash that killed a man and critically injured another Sunday morning.

It took first responders 40 minutes to free the driver, 22-year-old Matthew Fleshman of Omaha, who was taken to Alegent Creighton University Medical Center. His passenger, 26-year-old Josh Pacheco of Omaha, was pronounced dead at the scene.

It began when their eastbound car exited Interstate 80 at South 24th Street, and then failed to stop at the T-intersection at the end of the ramp. Fleshman then struck a concrete barrier -- rolling the vehicle on its side around 2:40 a.m. The vehicle then caught fire. The impact pinned both the Fleshman and Pacheco.

Pacheco's uncle, David Perez, told WOWT 6 News that the death of his nephew is extremely difficult to deal with. He fought back tears as he explained that Josh was extremely close with his older brother, John Pacheco, who has muscular distrophy.

Perez said he got the call around 9:30 Sunday morning. "To get that call of your nephews dead - I don't know its hard to explain," he said.
"I hope that God took him – the way he should have been taken care of. He was a good kid loved football, loved being around his nieces nephews and cousins all around good kid – he’d like to laugh and joke – and man when he laughed everyone heard him laugh," he remembered.

The accident hits the family hard, as Fleshman is the Fiance of Perez's niece. "It's like two birds with one stone," Perez explained.

Perez discussed greatly that Josh was a huge help in taking care of his brother John. "He had different colleges looking at him to play ball but then made that decision to push back his life to take care of his brother so he'd have a life...and now...it's just something that happens I guess."

Perez also told WOWT 6 News that it was difficult telling John what happened. "I'm going to help him {John} out of bed and hes telling me for 20 minutes that he lost his best friend - and how can you replace that guys - you cant."

Fleshman remained at Creighton Allegent in Critical Condition as of Sunday Night.
