Fans attending Saturday night's Nebraska-Wyoming game are being urged to protect themselves from the expected extreme heat.

Memorial Stadium gates open at 5:30 p.m. when forecasts predict the heat index will be at 103 degrees. Officials say fans should drink lots of water, avoid alcohol and sugary drinks, try to stay in shade and wear loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.

Water fountains are located on the main concourses and two large, portable water fountains will be added at either end of the stadium.

Fans will also be allowed to bring unopened commercial bottled water containers of up to 20 ounces into the stadium.

Lincoln is helping to ease the burden of parking with reserved, pre-paid parking spots at city garages available online. And for those parking at a metered spot, track down a city parking employee and only pay $9 for the whole day.

"I appreciate it personally and hopefully everyone else does because they know that's one of the biggest complaints," said Husker fan Karen Barnard.

Fans should also be careful as parts of the Haymarket District are under construction.
