Quick action by strangers saves a mother and her young children.
This close call happened Sunday. Two good Samaritans, explain just what happened
Minutes before a van explodes into flames, a couple driving behind help get three children out and away from danger. Mary Mather says, "I said come on let’s go, let’s go, your vehicle is on fire."
Mary Mather and Ron Acquisto had been on highway 75 driving behind the south bound van for several miles. If you look inside the van, you can see how charred it is. So the couple believes they were lucky to come along when they did and noticed gas spewing out the rear before the explosion.
When the driver stopped at a stop light in Plattsmouth, Ron called 911, then he Mary and another motorist got everyone inside out just before flames spread. Not a moment too soon as Ron’s photo sequence shows.
Ron Acquisto says, "They were real lucky because it could have caught on fire underneath without them knowing about it while driving down the road the way it was spewing out."
Despite a language barrier Mary told the mother how the family had been saved. Mary Mather says, "I said we serve and awesome god and that's why you are all safe and your vehicle is no more and I gave her a hug and she started crying."
A family blessed that others on the road sensed danger and didn't turn away.
Ron says, " We were just there, right spot, right time."
The family lives in Nebraska City but an Omaha relative tells WOWT6 that they're all doing fine. As you'd expect, they're still a little "
