It's been two-and-a-half years and the murder of Lynell Green remains unsolved. He was shot and killed trying to protect his mother when his family says robbers broke into his home.
Monday would have been his 33rd birthday and the family is keeping his memory alive.
They said that not a day goes by when they don’t think of him.
Lynell was gunned down in December, 2011. Green’s mother told us she was playing with her grandchildren when two men broke into the home. A scuffle ensued and Green was shot to death.
The family marked his birthday with a balloon launch and a candlelight prayer vigil was set for Monday evening.
"It's just another year I wish my brother was here," said Korretta Green, Lynell's sister.
While Green's murder is still unsolved the family still hopes that one day his killer will be caught.
"It's a hurting thing, it's a hurting thing," said Barbara Green Dootlittle, Lynell's mother.
