Mother's Day is a holiday to show your mom just how great she really is. In Omaha Sunday families did that in many different ways.
What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day then starting out with brunch. Many families and friends decided to do just that, piling up their plates with bacon, waffles, and eggs at Lauritzen Gardens. The meal was so popular tickets were sold out.
Dawn Gepford and her friend Chrisanne Dienstbier decided to try out the event and bring their kids. “My mother passed away last August so this is my first Mother's Day without her, so my really good friend decided this would be a good way to celebrate my first Mother's Day without her," said Gepford.
For both women this day has a special meaning. “This is my first child and Mother's Day now is just the most important day to me in the world. I just never knew there was such an incredible love out there that you could feel for another person,” said Dienstbier.
A mother’s love could be seen throughout the gardens and in local parks, like Memorial Park. One family put down a blanket and had a picnic. Another family enjoyed the home run weather by playing baseball. 6-year-old Conner Smith says the best thing about his mom, “She loves me.” Another thing he loves, that she plays baseball with him.
Conner did get his mom a gift this year, but she says the best gift she’s ever gotten is him. “That's the most important job I've got. I'm the mom of these two boys and I get to love on them and play baseball with them and have lots of fun outside,” said Michaela Smith.
