A Marine who made the ultimate sacrifice was honored Saturday morning. People gathered at Miguel Hernandez Keith Park at 30th and Y streets as a new monument was unveiled.
The community had worked for years to make it possible. The monument tells the story of Lance Cpl. Keith who lost his life in the Vietnam War. Keith was killed in combat on May 8, 1970 at the age of 18 and is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha. He was awarded the Medal of Honor and Purple Heart.
“It's so great, a great honor to see that all of these people have made time to come and honor him,” said his mother Delores Keith, who now lives in Texas, but was flown in for the event.
