Excavation Could Give Clues Of Nebraska's Past

Excavation work has begun at the Red Willow Reservoir near McCook to determine whether the area holds information about Native American life in the Great Plains.

Crews began the work last month at five sites at the reservoir. It's expected to continue seasonally through 2015.

The excavation work is part of the University of Nebraska State Museum's Nebraska Archaeological Survey.

Survey director Alan Osborn says test excavations will show whether the land should be studied and protected.
