Lincoln police say a 51-year-old ex-convict has been arrested, suspected of scamming two men about buying a convenience store-gas station that actually wasn't for sale.
Timothy Loontjer was arrested Monday on suspicion of theft by deception and criminal impersonation.
Police spokeswoman Katie Flood says two men paid Loontjer about $68,000 over 10 months to advise them about buying the Kwik Shop, which included fuel pumps.
The men finally got suspicious and contacted the store's corporate office. They found out the store wasn't on the market.
Flood says police also suspect Loontjer got about $15,000 from other victims of his scam.
Loontjer is still in custody. Online court records don't list the name of his attorney.
