Environmental Assessment to be conducted at Rhylander Park .The City of Plattsmouth and the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality are partnering to conduct a Phase II assessment to determine the potential for subsurface contamination at the park.
Starting in 1890 the property had been occupied by railroad tracks, roundhouses and machine shops according to the Cassgram. After sitting vacant for several years the city acquired the 28 acre site in the 1980s and it became a park.
The Phase I study last year resulted in a recommendation that “soil and groundwater sampling be conducted.” NDEQ is paying for the study which will be completed by March 17th of this year.
A City of Plattsmouth news release says, “Neither Plattsmouth, nor NDEQ, has any information causing one to believe anyone is at risk at this time.”
