A teenage Radio Shack employee was shot during a robbery Tuesday night in Papillion. Moments earlier, a customer at a Little Caesars Pizza in Ralston was pistol-whipped during an attempted holdup. Police said Wednesday the two crimes are related.

Dan Vacha wasn't getting into the Radio Shack at 84th and Hogan Wednesday and neither was anyone else. "I've been talking to people in the store for a few days and they've ordered some stuff and it's not available.”

The electronics store was closed following Tuesday’s robbery around 8:30 p.m. “At about 8:15 last night I drove by, I was going to stop by, but I was late for a meeting, so I'm really glad that I didn't stop by last night."

Police say two to four people walked in demanding money. One of them shot the employee in the leg. He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center in serious condition. Police are not releasing his name or the name of another employee who was inside the store at the time.

“Nobody is safe,” said Vacha. “Take precautions everywhere you go. Even small town Nebraska has these issues and that's kind of like what Papillion is to everybody."

“This is really rare for our community, so I don't think there's any reason to have any undue alarm or concern,” said Papillion Police Lt. Orin Orchard. PPD is working with the Ralston Police Department on the case. “We have expanded quite a bit of and continue to expand quite a bit of a lot of resources and effort to resolve it." Lt. Orchard said the robbery was a reminder that Papillion is part of the metro and dangerous situations can happen.

“Neighborhood watches have always been a good way to do things,” said Vacha. “If people see something that's out of the ordinary, it's called in immediately. Everybody should be on alert at all times, even small neighborhoods.”

Papillion Police Lt. Chris Whitted said they will be releasing surveillance video of the Radio Shack robbery on Thursday. Video released Wednesday by Ralston police shows the Little Caesars Pizza shop robbery at 82nd and Harrison from Tuesday night. The owner tells Channel 6 News the suspects didn't make off with any money, though they allegedly hit a customer in the head.
