It’s an idea that brings the older and younger generations together. Every Monday afternoon seniors from Hillcrest Health meet with Walnut Creek Elementary students at their school in Papillion.
The students are able to read and interact with their elders. The program has run for a couple of months now and organizers say it’s been a win-win opportunity.
“Our children have an opportunity to interact with elders when often they don’t have grandparents in the area. They learn to care, that’s a real difficult thing to put on a lesson plan. For the elders it helps them to reminisce and remember and it helps them to still feel useful in our society, which is a really important piece to the equation as well,” said Brenda Saxe with Hillcrest Health.
Students from first grade to sixth grade participate. Organizers say the program has been great so far.
