It took road crews two hours longer than expected to complete work on eastbound Interstate-80, in Council Bluffs, Tuesday. The delay caused quite a headache for morning commuters.
Construction crews found a void where storm sewer pipes were installed before, so they had to start working near the 24th Street bridge. The work was planned for overnight and crews had hoped to have the road open by eight o'clock. Instead, it re-opened at 10 a.m.
Traffic cameras during the morning rush resembled more of a parking lot, than interstate. The official detour took drivers up to Interstate-680.
