Law enforcement officers are teaming-up for another crackdown on drunk driving in Nebraska. A grant will fuel the campaign from August 16 through September 2.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office will be among those involved in the latest edition of the You Drink, You Drive, You Lose, selective DUI enforcement.

The grant money will come from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.

According to a release from the sheriff's department, their goal is to, "use additional deputies and saturation patrols to seek out suspected drunk drivers and arrest them; thus, creating safer streets for the citizens of Douglas County."

The following numbers from the Highway Safety Office show what's behind the enforcement campaign.

  • In 2012, there were 1,779 alcohol-related vehicle crashes.
  • In 2012, there were 81 fatal vehicle crashes, resulting in 87 deaths.
  • In 2012, there were 9,528 DUI convictions in Nebraska.
