Drought conditions continue to slowly improve across the Heartland. Intensity dropped a category from April 16th to April 23rd. Over that time span, one to three inches of rain fell across the Heartland.

Drought intensity lowered from extreme to severe across areas to the west of the Missouri river. East of the river, intensity lowered from severe to moderate.

Rainfall total for the month of April in Omaha remains at 3 inches above normal. Forecast looks fairly dry through the last weekend in April, though a few showers can't be ruled out to the south of I-80 on Friday.
