Residents of western Nebraska are getting an early taste of winter as snow blankets the area.

Deb Harimon, owner and manager of Route 26 Mart in Scottsbluff, says the snow began falling Friday and continued Saturday. Harimon says the snow has slowed traffic around her convenience store, but that most of the roads in the area are clear.

The National Weather Service says light snow is expected to continue through this afternoon in the southern Nebraska Panhandle, stretching as far east as North Platte.

The weather service says very cold temperatures are expected overnight into early Sunday with wind chills in the low teens possible. Dense fog also could develop in the area Saturday evening, making nighttime travel along Interstate 80 into Wyoming dangerous.
