An Omaha man is recovering after being shot in the face in Council Bluffs Saturday morning.
Police say 31-year-old Leo Guajardo was driving northbound on South 24th Street just after 1:30 a.m. when someone in another vehicle heading in the same direction came alongside and opened fire just north of the intersection with 34th Avenue. Witnesses said they heard six or seven shots as both vehicles sped toward Interstate 80.
Guajardo is in stable condition at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
"It's kind of scary,” said neighborhood resident Renee Brown. “I have two little kids that live with me, my son and my sister, so it's kind of scary."
"I think it's starting to get worse, it is slowly and surely,” said neighborhood resident Matt Quick. “I don't know if it's more and more that they're putting in more and more bars right up the road here."
