The Douglas County Republican Party is filing a complaint with state officials against Omaha City Councilman Ben Gray, a Democrat, saying the he violated ethics rules by voting to give his employer one of 35 coveted permits to sell fireworks this year.
It's the latest volley between Republicans and Democrats in the Omaha area in recent months. It follows complaints by Democrats against Douglas County Election Commissioner Dave Phipps, a Republican, for his decision to close nearly half the polling places in the county this year.
The Douglas County GOP says Gray voted in March to approve the fireworks permit of Impact One, a group that focuses on gang prevention, employment training and other issues in north Omaha. Gray says he wasn't employed by the group when he voted.
