Promotions were handed out Friday morning at the Douglas County Sheriff's Department where five deputies will be taking on more responsibility along with a higher rank.
The deputies, along with family, friends and colleagues, were in attendance. Recent retirements made the promotions necessary. The deputies' performance on the job and their scores during the promotion process were keys to obtaining the higher rank.
"We've had an unusual amount of retirements lately, people coming of age and in 2012 we've probably had the highest number of retirements that we've had in sometime," said Sheriff Tim Dunning.
Deputy Kris Peterson was promoted to the rank of sergeant and will be assigned to the County Court Division. Deputy John Pankonin was promoted to the rank of sergeant and will be assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. Sgt. Robert Jones was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and assigned to the C-Shift Road Patrol Division. Sgt. Denise Rieder was promoted to the rank of lieutenant and will be assigned to the B-Shift Road Patrol Division. Lt. Wayne Hudson was promoted to the rank of captain and will be assigned to the Court Services Bureau.
All will start their new duties in the coming days. A new department recruit class will start in April.
