A metro family that was burned out of their home this week is seeing an outpouring of support from the community.
The Crawford family, including seven kids, lost everything in a fire near 167th and V.
On Friday, volunteers at Divine Shepherd Lutheran began sorting the donations. Meriel and her kids were going to go through them Friday night.
Some people also donated gift cards and toys hoping to help make it easier for the family this Christmas.
Volunteer Jeannine Glesmann said, “I was overwhelmed by the generosity. There was an outpouring. More than we expected. So when I came into the room, I said, wow, that's a lot of stuff. There was more upstairs and downstairs. We're very grateful and I know Meriel and the kids are very grateful also."
Organizers received so many items that they hope to be able to help the victims of a South Omaha fire too.
