Do Not Disturb The Eagles
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is asking ice anglers and other visitors to Lake Wanahoo State Recreation Area near Wahoo to stay out of an exclusion zone set aside for a pair of bald eagles.
The exclusion zone is closed to all access from December 1st to July 15th and is in a large, dead cottonwood tree in the lake near the boat ramp at the man-made lake.
A pair of bald eagles first built a nest at Lake Wanahoo in 2011, producing two fledglings that year and two more last year. Experts say bald eagles are particularly sensitive to disturbances during the early portion of their breeding cycle. Nesting can begin as early as December and activities continue until eggs are laid, usually by early March.
