Decatur, Nebraska bridge
There are two ways to look at the situation facing the town of Decatur, Nebraska. City leaders say you can look at a year of losses to homes, property, crops and business because of the Missouri River flooding. Or you can look ahead and celebrate a long-awaited accomplishment: The opening of a new community center.
Decatur has scheduled the celebration this Sunday (September 4) at 1pm. The Sears Center is a multi-purpose building on Decatur’s main street. It will host the senior nutrition and gathering program. Before it was built, a small old block structure stood in its place.
Also inside, there is a new furnished doctor’s clinic which is operated in conjunction with Burgess Health Center. There is also a media room with a computer lab, a library, and an extensively equipped fitness club.
The Sears Center is at the corner of 8th and Broadway.
The flooding cut off Decatur from western Iowa. Flooding washed out areas of the Highway 175 bridge that crosses the Missouri River. Repairs have been made to the approach to the bridge, but it is still awaiting approval for safe travel.
