Des Moines to Gain Southwest Airlines Service

Des Moines International Airport is one of 22 cities gaining services from Southwest Airlines. On Friday it was announced that AirTran Airways, which currently serves Des Moines, will convert its operations to Southwest over time.

No date has been announced for any of those cities. Omaha’s Eppley Airfield has long offered service from Southwest Airlines.

Here is a list of the 22 AirTrain airports that will join the Southwest route map:

Flint, Michigan
Rochester, New York
Pensacola, Florida
Charlotte, North Carolina
Dayton, Ohio
Richmond, Virginia
Key West, Florida
Washington, D.C.
Memphis, Tennessee
Akron-Canton, Ohio
Wichita, Kansas
Des Moines, Iowa
Branson, Missouri
Portland, Maine
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Cancun, Mexico
Montego Bay, Jamaica
Aruba
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Bermuda
Nassau, Bahamas

Effective August 12, 2012, AirTran Airways will cease operations in these cities:

Allentown, Pennsylvania
Lexington, Kentucky
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania
Sarasota, Florida
Huntsville, Alabama
White Plains, New York
