Douglas County Deputies have found another way to help children; this time with all positive results.

The deputies union teamed up with ConAgra and the Salvation Army to feed 50 families in the Heartland and help others to "pay it forward."

It's still early morning but everything is moving quickly in the parking lot of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Boxes full of Thanksgiving meals are being delivered to families throughout the county.

Deputy Andy Woodward says, "We want them to see us when we're not on duty and show them that we care about them both of duty or off duty and that we're there for them anytime."

Eight-year-old Eli is learning another lesson while he helps deliver the meal.

Deputy Robert Caniglia says, "I want to show him that he is more fortunate then other kids; he's got DS and he has a Wii and not everybody has that stuff."

Maggie Cannon says, "Over 162 children will be fed today who normally would not get a meal today and there are several ConAgra products on top of it so it's not just today that they're being fed but they can have some extras too."

One of the stops was at the Watt's home. The meal is welcomed and will serve Kim and her boys well.

Kim Watts says, "It's great for the holiday season. Actually our pastor at our church signed us up for this and I thank her."

Watts had signed up to help out on another Salvation Army holiday project; to deliver Thanksgiving Day meals to the elderly.

The collaboration between Douglas County Deputies and ConAgra was actually facilitated by a sibling connection.

The deputies were looking for a project; ConAgra was looking to contribute more to address need in the Metro.
