The partial government shutdown is affecting the DeSoto & Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuges north of the metro. Both facilities are closed as of Tuesday.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service issued a statement saying it is aware that the closures impose hardships on those who are served. All public activities are also cancelled including al hunting access, scheduled hunts, and the Comprehensive Conservation Plan public review open house meetings which were scheduled for October 2 at the DeSoto Visitor Center and October 3 at the Fort Calhoun, Nebraska library.
The facilities will have only limited functions during the shutdown including emergency response.
