Daycare Operator Charged In Toddler's Death

A Blair in home daycare owner faces charges after a child drowned in a backyard pool. Authorities say the child was not being supervised at the time of the drowning.

One-year-old Isabelle Thallas of Blair died at the hospital after being found floating in the pool in August, 2012.

According to a court affidavit, Nancy Tierney, age 59, was in charge of watching the girl along with 7 other children that day.

Tierney told police that she was using the bathroom and had not asked anyone else to monitor the children during that time.

The police investigation revealed that the 1-year-old left the house through a sliding glass door that was not locked. She was found floating in the pool by Tierney's daughter while Tierney was in the restroom.

Tierney's attorney David Herzog tells Channel 6 News that she has been a licensed child care provider for more than 30-years and is haunted by the loss of the child. "I believe my client's conduct was not felonious," he said.

Tierney faces involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse charges in Washington County. Her bond was set at $30,000 on January 17th. Tierney is currently out on bond, awaiting her next court date in February
