A man risks years in prison pulling a knife on a store clerk. What's unusual is the way the man was dressed, the store he hit, and the fact he didn't get anything much of value.
It's hard to believe that anyone would rob a comic book store. It's even more puzzling when you hear the suspect demanded no money.
He just took trading cards.
Police cruisers lined up around Dragon's Lair, near 83rd & Blondo, Monday morning.
People who live in the neighborhood can't believe that has someone has robbed the neighborhood comic store.
"A comic book store of all things," vents one neighbor, "I mean there's no corporate comic book store. You're taking money out of someone's pockets.
Bob Gellner is the owner. He says the suspect didnt really take any money. He took trading cards instead.
Yu-Gi-Oh cards are in demand. They're popular, but not really valuable.
"[The robber] asked Fred to show him some specific cards, he drew a knife, took the cards and ran," says Gellner.
There are other items in the store that are worth more money, but the robber only wanted the cards.
The store owner and his staff say this makes the robbery even more unusual.
"I've had this business here for 35 years and this is the first time we've been robbed," says Gellner.
"We've been burglarized. We called the police and they caught them, but this is the first time we've been robbed."
No one was injured in the robbery.
The owner says a box of the trading cards that were stolen cost about $150 dollars.
The store owner says the suspect was wearing a Darth Vader sweatshirt and dark jeans. As of Monday night, there have been no reported arrests.
