Did you take some time Monday while you were at work to sneak in some online shopping? If you did, you're not alone.
Cyber Monday 2012 is shaping up to be the biggest online shopping day ever. Which is good news for some Omaha businesses who depend on internet sales.
As online shopping grows in popularity, so do the businesses who depend on it, like Picture Pretty Kites.
Helen Gorr runs the business from her home in north central Omaha. She sells and ships kites of all shapes and sizes. Cyber Monday marks the start of a busy holiday season for Gorr.
"You can sit at home in your easy chair in front of your laptop or computer and five days later you have it at your doorstep, or even sooner," says Gorr. "And that can't be beat in my mind."
Across town at Omaha Steaks, Cyber Monday is busy online and on the phone. It's the busiest day of the year so far for the 95-year-old company.
The online giant more than doubles it's workforce during the holidays.
"In 1995, we really went big on the internet," says Todd Simon, owner of Omaha Steaks. "And that's really exploded for us. Today we're getting a very significant percentage of our sales from online. And it's proven to be a very comfortable way for our customers to shop with us."
For many online retailers, Cyber Monday began Sunday with specials. Many sites are still offering specials through the Monday night.
