A crook cuts a non-profit deep with a recent theft.

"It was right in this location through here, you can see there is one over there and another one over there and this is a third one through here," said Dr. David Hibler, Benson Plant Rescue Founder.

Hibler said Wednesday morning a newly donated meditation bench was stolen.

"The fact that someone would come in and desecrate that space and take something. I just think that is pretty low," said Hibler.

But this is part of an on-going issue.

"We've had two break-in burglaries in the course, at the end of May, into June. We've had several other thefts of smaller items from around the property. Plants taken. We had 47 dianthus out sitting out on the shelves, and 20 of them disappeared in the course of about a week," said Hibler.

Right now police are still working on tracking down a suspect. Hibler said while they work on that, Benson Plant Rescue will be making a few changes on the property.

Those will start with a fence along the west part of the property. Hibler said they are also considering security cameras.

"We don't want this to have to become an armed camp, this is not a question of setting up gun towers and turrets, and laser detectors and everything else. You shouldn't have to do that," said Hibler.

But they will, if that's what it takes to keep this space safe and tranquil.
