The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Nebraska is reporting that it collected nearly $8.4 million in civil and criminal actions during Fiscal Year 2012. U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg released figures, down to the penny Tuesday.
Here they are.
During FY 2012, $3,478,505.41 was collected in criminal actions and $4,917,686.46 was collected in civil actions within the District of Nebraska.
That includes $1,549,264.57 in criminal restitution against several people convicted of IRS fraud and tax evasion.
Nationwide, U.S. Attorneys’ offices collected $13.16 billion in criminal and civil actions. That figure is more than double the $6.5 billion collected in FY 2011. It is also six times the appropriated budget of the combined 94 offices in FY 2012. It nearly matches the $13.18 billion collected in FY 2010 and FY 2011 combined.
Gilg was quoted as saying, “During this time of economic recovery, these collections are more important than ever. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is dedicated to protecting the public and recovering funds for the federal treasury and for victims of federal crime. We will continue to hold accountable those who seek to profit from their illegal activities.”
