Crews in Creston, Iowa are struggling to reach what appears to be a plugged sewer line that is causing about 20 gallons of waste water per minute to be released in an isolated area.

The state Department of Natural Resources says workers
discovered the problem Wednesday afternoon in an area about a
quarter-mile from a road. Gaining access to the line has been
difficult and crews were cutting trees to reach the area.

City officials asked that people avoid hiking in the south end
of a popular trail near McKinley Lake until workers can complete

The DNR says it's unclear when the problem began and how much
waste water has been released.
