The southbound lanes of Interstate 29 reopened Thursday night after an accident Thursday afternoon near Honey Creek, Iowa. Investigators told Channel 6 News that for an unknown reason, the driver of a sedan slowed down dramatically almost to a stop, triggering a collision.
Cars were forced to swerve out of the way. A flatbed truck hauling two cars was not as fortunate. The truck crashed into the rear of the sedan. Two people in the sedan were removed from the scene in critical condition.
Both southbound lanes were covered with debris.
