An Omaha man working to turn his life around sees his car smashed right in front of him.

PJ Vadovski, a temporary resident at the Stephen Center parked his silver Cadillac near the front entrance Friday evening at Q.

A couple hours later the car was hit from behind by what Vadovski says was a drunk driver in a Mustang.

The force caused his Cadillac to smash into the building.

The man driving was arrested and his passenger was taken to an area hospital with injuries.

“It was kind of surreal,” says Vadovski.

“I was just like man now what am I going to do?”

Vadovski has been staying at the homeless shelter for two months, but recently found work as an electrician apprentice in Blair, about 30-minutes away by car.

He also takes classes at an Omaha union hall, but now has no way to get to work.

“It’s frustrating, but what are you going to do?”

“It's out of my hands. I can't turn back the hands of time.”

Even though the crash caused thousands of dollars in damage, Del Bomberger, CEO of the Stephen Center says it could have been much worse.

“If the driver had not hit that car he would have been going much faster and he might have gone straight through into the sleeping area,” says Bomberger.

“It’s only another 20 feet inside the door.”

Vadovski is just days from moving into his own apartment and says he still plans to move.
Despite the bad timing, he is isn't upset with the driver who ruined his car.

“Bad things always happen you just have to take it in stride. There's no use in getting angry at the gentleman who caused it or anything else for that matter because it's just not worth it.”

Vadovski says he isn't sure if the other driver has insurance, but he'll find out in the next couple days.
