It’s been several years since 16-year-old Kylie Remmereid from Bennington was killed in a crash. Her family says she may be gone, but she’s definitely not forgotten. The tragedy has motivated them to encourage others to drive safely.

Kasey Remmereid loves spending time with her family and has always been especially close to her sister Kylie. “We’re 13 months a part. We were very close,” said Kasey.

She describes Kylie as fun and active with a vivacious personality, so it was devastating when the family lost her three years ago. “It hasn’t been easy at all, it hasn’t been easy for any of my family.”

Kylie and two others were in a Volkswagen Beetle when the driver lost control and crashed into a tree near 168th and State in Bennington. Officials say the driver had been speeding. Kylie was killed.

“Life is precious. You don’t get to determine when you get to go,” said Kasey. What the family does want to do, is try to prevent anyone else from having to go through the same tragedy.

The past three years they’ve formed a team and participated in the Keep Kids Alive Drive 25 5K Run/Walk to Remember. This year is no different and they’re hoping to have more support than ever.

“We try to do everything we can do to keep her memory alive that involved her personality. The runs are fun and active. We do a lot of fun stuff like that.”

They’re asking people to slow down and be careful while driving and most importantly cherish every moment you have with your loved ones.

The event is on Saturday, May 3rd at Skutt High School. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the run/walk starts at 8:30 a.m. You can find more information or register at www.KeepKidsAliveDrive25.org.
