Crash Knocks Out Power

A one-vehicle crash at 53rd and Center Monday evening left an entire area of the city without power for several hours.

According to police, a 2005 Ford F150 was westbound on Center, around 5:45 p.m., when the driver came upon slow or stopped traffic at a high speed. The driver swerved, lost control, and hit a wooden utility pole before coming to a rest against a building at 53rd and Center.

The driver, identified as 46-year-old Mark Allen of Omaha was taken to the hospital to be treated for a head injury. The passenger, 43-year-old Teresa Allen who was treated for minor bumps and bruises.

Shortly after the crash, OPPD arrived on the scene to make repairs. They estimated it would be up to seven hours before power was fully restored.
