Cedar Rapids, Iowa police are warning those looking to rent property in the city of a Craigslist scam that has cost several their deposits.
One woman nearly became a victim. She said she found a nice rental house in town on the online want-ad site, and it was a steal for $500 per month.
But she became suspicious when the man she contacted said he
couldn't meet her at the property. Instead, he wanted her to wire
him $1,000, and he would send her keys and a lease.
A quick Internet search turned up another ad on the house with a
different contact number.
Police say the Craigslist ad was part of a scam that has already
cost others thousands.
