Roof leaks at Cass County Courthouse cause some damage. Cass County Commissioners are anticipating a report at their next meeting.
The Cassgram reports Commissioner Jim Peterson said he was first notified of the situation on Christmas Eve Day and then learned more on Christmas Day. From what Peterson’s been told, the leaks apparently developed around screws/nails attaching temporary membranes in catch basins that will eventually be covered with copper.
The leaky areas have since been patched.
A roof replacement project that began about 14 months ago is not yet completed, something the county board has addressed. Peterson said he received another email Tuesday but didn’t want to go into much detail yet about the options available to the county in dealing with the liability.
In addition to walls, ceilings and furniture, Peterson said there was damage to phone systems and other electronic equipment, and the damage to paper records is still being assessed.
